We have this treasure in earthen vessels .... (2 Cor. 4:7)

HAPPENINGS

  • "Voices of Faith in the Midst of the Storm" was released August, 2006. The book -- edited and compiled by John -- is a collection of writings, sermons, journals, and reflections by faith leaders in South Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. It includes writings from John, Robin, and ten other ELCA faith leaders in the New Orleans/Baton Rouge area.

  • John also developed for the Greater Baton Rouge Federation of Churches and Synagogues the city-wide Service of Remembrance, Thanksgiving, and Hope on the Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina held in Baton Rouge August 27, 2006.

  • Here are some of John's recent multimedia projects:

John produced a video lifting up ministries in the three ELCA synods of Texas and Louisiana for the January 2007 Tri-Synodical Theological Conference. The video, entitled "The Church at the Crossroads" tells through brief vignettes the stories of four ministries responding to the needs in their commumnities. The video is below, divided into sections for viewing online:

"Crossroads Introduction" -- the introduction to the theme
"Tidings of Comfort" -- the food pantry ministry of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Comfort, Texas
"Peace in the Midst of the Storm" -- the ministry of Peace Lutheran Church in Slidell, Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina
"Border Ministries" -- the ministry of Texas congregations on the Mexico-Texas border
"Carnival Celebration" -- a neighborhood celebration hosted by Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Dallas, Texas
"Crossroads Ending" -- a summary inspirational reprise of the theme
    "Credits" for the video

"Below the Water Line" is a companion video to the Voices of Faith book, produced by John McCullough Bade for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). It chronicles through music and images the destruction as well as the beginning recovery work in New Orleans. Music in the video is by Paul Soniat (www.paulsoniat.com) and David Nevue (www.davidnevue.com). Thanks to both of these great musicians for providing the hauntingly beautiful music for the video! This video has been shown at various synod assemblies throughout the ELCA.

"Immersed in God's Amazing Grace" is a video capturing "grace moments" in the Southwestern Texas Synod. The video was shown at the synod assembly May 19-20, 2006 and was distributed to every congregation of the synod.

"Faith in the Midst of the Storm" shows the impact of hurricanes Katrina and Rita on the ministries of congregations of the Gulf Coast Synod. A copy of this video has been sent by the Gulf Coast synod office to each of the synods of the ELCA.

  • John has also developed several multimedia presentations on a variety of themes -- mission, evangelism, congregational life, confirmation, men in mission, VBS, etc. These presentations can be adapted for local congregational use. Contact him at john@robinandjohn.info.

A sample of one of these presentations (for Men in Mission) can be viewed by clicking here (Men in Mission).

  • John and Robin's ministry has been profoundly shaped and impacted by the hurricanes which ravaged Louisiana this summer. John has written a service of prayer, consolation, and hope, and has developed multi-media reflections in response to the tragedy. These resources, as well as photos of the effects of the storms, can be found by clicking here, or by following the "Katrina" link on the menu above.

  • Robin has an article published in the December, 2005 Lutheran Women Today. The article, entitled, "Everyday Advent: Living with Chronic Illness," is a reflection on waiting boldly with patience while living with chronic illness. One of John's poems is also included.

  • John and Robin are writing the Fall and Winter Quarters, 2007-2008 of Daily Discipleship -- a free, downloadable online weekly lectionary Bible study produced by the Evangelism and Christian Education ministries of the ELCA.

  • John completed work in May, 2005 on a video for the ELCA. The video, With Hands Uplifted -- A Call to Prayer, uses music and images to inspire, celebrate, and stimulate prayer. An excerpt of the video can be found at the ELCA Evangelism website. The free video is available in VHS and DVD formats from Augsburg Fortress (1-800-328-4648).
